CAHSEE Make-Up testing for 10th and 11th Graders will be held on Tues., March 16 and Wed., March 17 in the Library and the Little Theatre. Please check with your first period teacher if your name is on the list that is posted and where you need to report. If you are scheduled to test you also should have received a letter in the mail.

The Intro. to Construction Careers class is beginning on Mon., Mar. 15th at SCROC. If you already signed up for the class it begins @ 3:45pm. If you have not already signed up go over to the center to see PAM LAWRENCE. Welding, Plumbing and HVAC are the choices available.

The time is here! We are accepting "back of the yearbook" dedication pages until Mar. 19th. You bring in your photos and wording and we will put it in our yearbook. Prices: $300 for a full page, $150 for a half-page, $100 for a quarter-page, and $60 for a business card size. Make payments at Activities during lunch beginning Fri., 2/19. Make checks payable to Torrance High.

Kelsea Nash, Sarah Barrington, Alisha Ponce and Tony Garcia will be playing in the South Bay Senior Soccer All Star games at El Camino College Friday night. The girls' game which features all star seniors from the Ocean, Pioneer and Bay Leagues will start at 5 pm. The boys' game will follow at 7 pm. Tickets are $3. Come support our seniors and catch some great high school soccer.

Come to the Dodgeball Tournament tonight in the main gym. Tickets are $3 from any Sr. Class Council member or at the door. There will be food and a DJ. Come root for your team from 6 to 8pm tonight!

Attention cast, crew and band members of Back to the 80's: TODAY, March 11 is the FINAL day to have your photo taken for the play program. Seniors

College bound seniors who are California residents and have financial need should apply for the Durfee Family Scholarship. Applications can be obtained in the counseling office and are due by May 1st.

Seniors needing "Mid-year Reports" For Private Schools: Please make sure that your counselor has received the necessary forms. Transcripts are available for schools requesting "7th semester grades". Seniors may hear from Cal States and some UC's wanting grades from the first semester of their senior year. You should only send the transcript in response to a request from the college or university

Senior Athletes: Checking out of your sport? Your counselor will need a note from your parent and your coach. The counselor will check to see that you can graduate without the credits and then drop you. You are not automatically dropped from your sport and you will be marked absent until you are dropped!

Don't forget. If you are planning to attend a four year college and you received a grade lower than a C in an academic class, you must notify the college(s) and let them know-in writing. Failure to do this could negatively impact your admission to the school.

Scholarships:

The Young Ambassadors Program is looking for 24 high school graduating seniors, Latino/a with an interest and commitment to disciplines in the arts, sciences, or humanities. The selected students will travel to D.C. for the training and leadership seminar @ the Smithsonian Institution. Upon completion of the 5 week program, students will receive a $2,000 stipend. DEADLINE: 4/7/10 - visit latino.si.edu/education or see Mrs. Palacios in the counseling office.

A Summer Fellowship Program is available for seniors (Class of 2010) in the biomedical field. If you are selected, you would be working in biomedical research laboratories, assisting with research in areas such as: biochemistry, cancer, cardiovascular, computers in biomed science to mention a few. The dates of the fellowship (internship) are 6/21-8/13 and there is a stipend for it. The deadline to apply is March 12th. For more info visit: www.labiomed.org

The South Bay Alumnae Panhellenic Association will be offering scholarships for FEMALE seniors who plan to attend a 4 year college where National Panhellenic Conference sororities are established. Check out the website for more details at www.southbaypanhellenic.com by April 15, 2010.

Seniors of Japanese ancestry who are members of a single-parent family and reside in the LA or Orange County area should apply for the JACL Hana Uno Shepard Memorial Scholarship. See Mrs. Golia in the counseling office for an application by May 3rd, 2010.

If you have a Vietnam Veteran in your life, you may be eligible for the 15th Annual Vietnam Veterans of America Scholarship. View the poster outside the counseling office for eligibility and application details.

Do you see yourself working as a nurse in your future? Come to the counseling office to get details from Mrs. Golia about the "I am going to be a nurse!" $500 Scholarship. The deadline is March 20th.

The Armenian Relief Society in the South Bay will be awarding a $500 scholarship to high school seniors of Armenian descent who meet certain eligibility criteria. See Mrs. Golia in the counseling office for an application. Due by 5/1.

Torrance Memorial Medical Center is offering scholarships to students pursuing careers in nursing, pharmacy, and allied health professions. Please visit their website at www.torrancememorial.org to apply.

The Torrance Craftmen's Guild is offering scholarships for students interested in arts and crafts. Seniors who are skilled in the area of arts and crafts should contact Mrs. Golia, counseling office, for applications and details. Deadline is 4/1/2010.

SCCTA Charitable Foundation offers the Lee Brennan Memorial College Scholarship for graduating seniors. For more information and to apply, visit www.sccta.org. Applications are due by Friday, March 12th.
