The City of Torrance Community Services Department is sponsoring the 29 th Annual Harry Sutter Memorial Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot Fun Run. The City of Torrance Community Services Dept. is sponsoring the 29 th Annual Harry Sutter Memorial Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot Fun Run. This 3 Mile Run will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, Thurs., Nov. 27, 2008. Entry forms are available with your teachers or at the Community Services Dept. located at 3031 Torrance Blvd. or on line at www.active.com. El Camino class schedules are available online. "Hard" copies are available in the Career Center. Both El Camino and Harbor offer "Winter Session" classes during their winter breaks. Like summer school, these classes may meet daily over a short period of time. Harbor's schedule is available online--check it out. If you're interested, schedule an appointment with your counselor so we can help you select classes. You must have a Concurrent Permission Form signed by your counselor. The forms are available in the counseling office or online.

Ms. Reinertsen from El Camino College Honors Transfer Program will be in the Library to meet with interested seniors on Thurs., Dec. 4th during periods 2, 3, and 4. Interested? Please sign up in the counseling office to receive a pass to attend. Please give your teachers 24 hours notice. Requirement for admission to the Honors program at ECC is a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 from grades 9-12.

The Local Scholarship deadline is fast approaching. Make sure you get your application completed by the deadline. Remember, the deadline is 12/16/08 by 3:15pm. Late applications will NOT be accepted. If you need more information, please see Ms. Lee in the counseling office.

All requests for letters of recommendation (for college or scholarships) must be submitted to your counselor on or before Dec. 3rd. No requests will be honored after that date . Please make an appointment to see your counselor and bring your senior data sheet and any forms (secondary school reports) that need to be completed. Be sure you have completed your part before giving to your counselor. Allow at least 2 weeks for the letter to be written. You do not have to have your college application complete before you make the request for a letter of recommendation.

Financial Aid Nightfor TUSD will be hosted by Torrance High on Tues., Dec. 2nd at 6:30pm in the Auditorium . Our presenter will give a financial aid overview and discuss the forms needed to apply. There will also be a line by line presentation of the FAFSA. All parents of seniors are encouraged to attend. Even if your parents do not think that they will qualify, please encourage them to attend. Remember that while attending a community college is less expensive than a four year it is not cheap, and there is financial aid available. The same presentation will be offered in Spanish that night.
